Our Outreach Program is a very integral part of the programs and services offered to seniors in Milford and the surrounding areas by the Milford Senior Center. Unfortunately, seniors are finding it increasingly difficult, if not impossible, to meet the costs of their basic needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, medical care, and prescription drugs.

Many seniors are very confused by the mail they receive or have no idea how to apply for services they need or are eligible to receive. Our Outreach program is geared toward the needs of these seniors, and our Outreach Coordinator, Evetta Jackson, is very committed to working with these seniors to provide assistance with the following services:

• Annually, review programs seniors are currently enrolled in to make sure they are enrolled in the program that is best for them such as a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan D.
• Starting in the fall of 2024 our Outreach Coordinator will begin working with seniors, assisting them with re-enrolling in the Delaware Prescription Assistance Program.
• Explaining and enrolling seniors in extra help programs (Limited Income Subsidy) – Medigap insurance, Medicare Prescription Plan D, Fuel/Cooling assistance, Senior Nutrition Assistance Program, transportation, in-home aid, and mortgage foreclosure prevention.
• Locating financial assistance for persons who have exhausted means of paying certain bills or purchasing certain medications.
• Refers seniors to other agencies for assistance when needed, such as Division of Aging and Social Services.
• Research all needs to get clients to the program, service or agency who can best meet their needs.

There are many ways clients are identified. Some are members of the Milford Senior Center, others are referred by state agencies, pharmacists, and physicians. Some are referred by their family or friends. Others learn about the outreach program through local newspaper articles or the Milford Senior Center newsletter.
